I'm craving preseason rankings. Problem is it's fucking so hard now to do it with a giant conference with a bunch of schools I do nothing about and the portal and whatever fucking Island of Dr. Moreau shit fucksticks have turn college football into. We call a conference the Big 10 that has fucking 18 teams in it, two of which is Rutgers and Maryland, for some reason.
Ranking coaches is fun though and the Big 10 has an interesting group. In my mind there's a clear number one and then 2-like 11 could be put in any order.
I know its just a joke but the multiple iteration history of the field is an interesting trajectory… here are some pics of the early progression
Of course it started off as a dirt lot… with a coquettish mini grandstand.. notice the checkerboard cross hatching of the lines on the field ~ wonder what that was about..
later as cars entered the picture, the thing was to bring your favorite girl, park along the sidelines and tailgate party ~ cool idea
After going undefeated for a decade with Gilmore as the coach while playing luminary NW teams, seating demand picked up
in the 1920's,so grandstands sounded like a good idea, complete with the trench warfare to separate the crowd from the field…
By the 50's the upper deck had long since been in operation and stadium popularity was well established… Note the golf course on the right ~ I had
a lot of fun playing that as a montlake kid in the mid to late 50's.. on the stadium side of 23rd Ave, there were 3 holes ~ only 2 greens, you used a second
t box located half way down down the right hand edge of the3 parking lot for the short distance hole number 2 and used the same green as for hole
number 1. On the other side of 23rd, down by fisheries, oceanography and the hospital, there were another 6 holes… in the early 60's the growth of
medical facilities and fisheries eliminated the last 6 holes and the first 3 faded into non use.
CSB time.
I’m getting ready to move out of Seattle in 2017. My FIL has a ton of jazz CDs (mostly stuff he burned to CDs after checking out the originals from the library) but due to his diminishing eyesight, we transition him to Amazon Music via Alexa. Mrs Nacho is not a hoarder but also hates throwing stuff and wants to move it and see if her midwestern family wants some/all of the CDs.
I’m lazy and a realist. I know the family won’t want any of these CDs but I know a certain dictator who likes jazz so the next tim @DerekJohnson and I have lunch, I ask if he’s interested in some jazz CDs and bring who knows how many CDs, 50? 100?
Stalin kindly takes them off my hands but the next time we meet for lunch he preemptively tells me “no more CDs though”
That’s my one and only jazz story.
